Hi folks,
My new website is up and running! As I have said before, it is a blogsite so both my blog and website will be in one place. So I will not be posting on this blog anymore. Please go over to my site and bookmark that to continue reading all the latest goings-on and latest sessions. You can also subscribe to RSS feeds there. So without further ado click here to view it!

Quick Update
Hello,
I wanted to give you a quick update on the website progress. It should be going live very soon, like within a few days. I have a session to share but I'm going to wait until the new one is up. In the meantime, I'll be sharing it on my Facebook Fan page. Speaking of Facebook,if you become a fan of my page I am offering a $50 prints & products credit (just upped from $35)on your next session. This offer if for NEW fans only and you must be local to Columbus Ohio or The Ohio Valley (Wheeling WV/St. Clairsville, OH) or willing to travel to these areas. To take advantage of this offer, go to my Fan Page ,become a fan and then send me an e-mail (stephanie@stephaniemoonphoto.com) letting me know you have become a fan and I'll give you the $50 credit. It's that easy! Let all your friends know about this great deal too so they can take advantage of it.
Back to my website, it is a "blogsite" so my blog and website will be all in one. Also, proofing will be done on my new site as well. And in the works is a client site, where you can get all the information about your session, from what to wear to my policies. Everything all in one place. That's what I'm going for. The overall look of the site will be very different than my current one. Hopefully you will like it.
So this will most likely be my second to last post here. The next being the announcement that the new site is live. By the way, my website address will stay the same, www.stephaniemoonphoto.com.
I hope to see you there!

New Website Coming Soon
I am right now as I type working on a new website! Exciting stuff. It's a lot of work but it will be worth it once it's all done. Once the website is finished, I will no longer be updating to my current blog because the blog and website will all be one! AND, client proofing will be incorporated into it as well. How nice will that be? You will no longer need to go to three different places to read my updates, see my galleries, find out information, and view your proofs! I will of course let you know when I make the switch. In the meantime, keep coming here to check on the progress of the website and other news from Stephanie Moon Photography.

Red White and Boom 2009

Hi folks, I hope you all had a nice fun relaxing holiday weekend. I attended Red White and Boom for the first time since moving to Central Ohio in 2001. I know, you would think in 8 years that I could make it there. Every year as it would roll around I'd say to myself "I'll have to go check that out sometime." Well, I finally did. The fireworks show was really good. One of the best I have seen for a long long time. I also had a Jumbo Cream Puff from Schmidt's while there, another Columbus landmark I have been saying to myself that I must check out. And all I can say about that cream puff is: Oh my, I have died and went to paradise. It was simply divine. Now I'll have to go to the actual restaurant. There are some other uniquely Columbus things that I have been meaning to go to and just haven't. The Columbus Museum of Art (I know, I know, ridiculous, I'm an artist I should go!), Cosi, Capital Theatre, and there must be other things. If you know of some cool Columbus places that are just must see please leave a comment and I'll try to check them out. I have of course been to our awesome #1 zoo in the country! And Franklin Park Conservatory. What I realized is that I must do these things now. Eight years have just flown by and I don't know where the time went. And I plan to attend the Museum of Art before the summer is out. I will, I will do it! I encourge everyone else also to check out the local stuff. We don't need a fancy vacation to see something new!
Update: The folks at the Columbus Museum of Art saw my blog post and sent this to me:
"Hi Stephanie – saw your post about Red White and Boom and loved your pictures. Just thought you might like to know that the Museum is free throughout all of July and August with lots of great activities planned for families, children and adults. It’s our way of giving back to the community during these tough times and is made possible by the support of our members. You can check out details on our website – www.columbusmuseum.org
Hope you can make it in for a visit!"
So now is a great time to visit!

I Love my Job.... {Ohio Equine Photographer}

.........because I get to photograph beauties like this!
This is CW River of Gold, a Dun overo Paint stallion owned by Crosswind Farm. This guy was such a gentleman. He was very well behaved, but he did put on quite a show for me and the mares. He is standing at stud and they also have some of his babies on the ground for sale. Thank you Kim for giving me the opportunity to photograph him!
I will be photographing a few more horses over the next 2-3 weeks, so keep your eye out for that here on the blog for those as well.

More Cats {Columbus Ohio Pet Photographer}
I seem to photograph a lot of cats. It's not something I do on purpose. I just seem to come across them often. Not that I don't want to take photos of cats. I do love them. And they have interesting beautiful faces.
This first one is our new kitten Maxx. Isn't he the cutest? I feel like I have an infant in the house again. I have to go about my day based on his sleeping schedule because he can't be alone. That's OK, I don't mind.

This next one is a stray that has been hanging out at my parents' house lately, much to their dismay. They can't keep him because of serious allergies. Poor thing. He is really, really affectionate. People, please get your animals spayed and/or neutered. It's the only humane thing to do.
I would so love to photograph more dogs too. So if you have a special pooch in your life you want to remember forever, give me a holler. I'll even give half off my session fee to the first person to contact me for a dog session.

Circle P Sanctuary: Horses in Need Photo Project {Ohio Equine Photographer}
Founder Lynn Petitti looks over a new arrival, an emaciated 13 yr old pony. She believes this pony is going to make someone a wonderful companion and riding horse after she is brought back to health.
Lynn gives some love to Frisky, a nurse mare foal. This little filly is the friendliest thing I have ever seen. Instead of grazing like all the other normal horses, Frisky followed us around in the pasture and would not leave us alone. She is a real love bug, and she is available for adoption! Ther are 2 other nurse mare foals available for adoption at Circle P. See the video at the end to learn about nurse mare foals.
This is Jack, also available for adoption. I would like to adopt him myself if I could. He is my "type".
Lifetime resident Johnny gives Jack a frisky little nip.I was fortunate enough to go up to Marengo to the Circle P Sanctuary and meet with and talk to founder Lynn Petitti. I was very impressed by the work she and her very small group of volunteers are doing. They are not a big organization but they are helping the horses that they can. Lynn seemed to me to be a very compassionate person. Not just with the horses but with people too. She understands that sometimes people get in bad situations and may have to surrender their horse. At the same time, that is no excuse for letting an animal suffer.
I also want to let people know of the huge commitment she puts into this. It is a full time job to care for the animals and run the organization. They have many "residents" that will be there permenantly and Lynn is okay with that. They will have a home for the rest of their lives. In fact ALL the animals will have a home for the rest of their lives, even the adoptable ones if they are not adopted. Of course, if they are adopted that makes room for more horses that can be saved. So if you can adopt one, please consider it. All adopters must have at least a basic knowledge and ability to take care of a horse. All adopters will also go through a process in which you have to be approved to adopt a horse and make sure you match up well with the horse you are interested in adopting. Lynn informed me that this process usually takes about a month. The Circle P Sanctuary is relatively new, so far they have adopted out 2 horses, with the hopes of being able to adopt out several more. If you can't adopt consider contributing or volunteering. With our help and support I hope they can meet that goal and thereby save a lot more horses.
There are 3 common situations that horse may fall into where it needs to be rescued. Of course there are others but these are the most common. 1.)The owner has gotten in over their head, did not know what was involved in horse care and is unable to care for the horse. Or people lose their jobs and can no longer afford to care for the horse. This is happening alot now with this economy. 2.)A performance/sport horse is no longer useful to their owner. Such is often the case with thoroughbreds off the track and other sport horses as well. These strong powerful animals who could harm us if they wanted, work their heart out to please their owners only to be thrown to the wayside when they have grown too old or injuries cause them to not be able to perform anymore. 3.)They are just neglected. Put into a pasture and forgot about.
I will probably be making another trip out to Circle P this summer. I did not get many photos because I was too engrossed in my conversation with Lynn!
A video about nurse mare foals. Warning, some content is hard to see. (Not my video, just a link)
